Leaving a bequest in your will

"I see it as a payback - giving back what I have got out of life. Although I have been a supporter for some time, it all came back to me when I had my cataracts done. It reopened the world for me. I didn't realise how beautiful the world is - full of lovely shapes and colours." - Bequest Supporter

Leaving the World a Better Place

Leaving the world a better place was one of Fred Hollows basic beliefs. He was passionate about restoring sight to disadvantaged people in developing countries.

Just as Fred Hollows left the world his legacy, you too can help us continue to make his dream a reality by leaving The Foundation a gift in your will.

In one sense this is truly the greatest gift - some part of you lives on in a visible and practical way.  Being named as a beneficiary in people's wills now forms a significant part of The Foundation's income and is helping restore sight, hope, dignity and idependence.

Some people have shared with us the reasons behind their decision to support The Foundation in this way.

Vision for the Future

Heather Lennox

Heather Lennox recently wrote to let us know why she had decided to leave a gift to The Foundation in her will.

"As a child I suffered with very poor sight so I know what a profound difference good sight has made to my life. I live a privileged life and I want to redress the balance by helping The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ to bring sight and hope to people in the Pacific so that they can once again look after their families.  It makes me feel good that I can leave a legacy and know that after I have gone, I will still be making a real contribution to improving the lives of others."

Laurie and Lettie Willis

Murray Willis writes, "My parents, Laurie and Lettie Willis, were very impressed by the work carried out by The Fred Hollows Foundation and wished to add their support by way of a donation on their death.  Having both experienced the transformation of cataract surgery and knowing how cost effectively The Fred Hollows Foundation can perform this surgery, the Foundation was an organisation they were especially keen to support.

Types of Gifts

After providing for your family and friends you may choose to support The Foundation with a gift in your will. This gift can take the form of the residue of the estate; a percentage of the estate; a specific amount of money; a life insurance or superannuation policy; or property such as shares, works of art or jewellery.

Leaving a gift to The Foundation through your will, can help us to realise Fred's dreams.
