The Foundation also uses secure online bank transactions made available by Direct Payment Solutions. It is an automated process that is done in real time.

When entering your credit card information you can rest assured that all information you enter is encrypted using SSL technology and independent Digital Certificates issued by Thawte. At no time is your complete credit card number stored to a hard-drive. This method of storage guards against all forms of fraud, including hacking. The only details retained are the transaction identification numbers.

Will I get a receipt for my donation?

All online donations receive an online receipt.

Miracle Club members, who donate monthly by credit card, direct debit or automatic payment, receive a consolidated receipt at the end of the financial year.

If you lose your receipt, contact The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ on 0800 227 229 and we'll happily send you a copy.

Is my donation tax deductible?

Donations of $5.00 and over are tax deductible in New Zealand.

From 1st April 2008, the maximum refund limit has been lifted for charitable donations to 33.3% of your total annual income, so now you'll be able to give more and still receive a refund.

Companies can also deduct their charitable donations up to the value of their net income. Small businesses of five or fewer shareholders are also included in the company deduction for the first time.

How do I claim my rebate?

You'll need to fill in the rebate form IR 526, which you can download here.  For further information contact IRD on 0800 257 773.

Can I donate my rebate to The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ?

Definitely.  You can either elect to donate your rebate directly to The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ on your rebate claim form, or you can forward your rebate to us once you receive it.

This is a wonderful way to make your donation go further, so please consider claiming and donating your rebate.  We'll then send you a receipt for you to claim another rebate in 2009!

How can my donations to The Foundation benefit me?

Donations to our work not only make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged people throughout the world but also provide tax benefits to you, by reducing your taxable income and tax liability.

Can I donate second hand glasses to support The Foundation's work?

The Foundation's use of modern cataract surgical techniques means that patients with cataract blindness no longer require glasses to see.

Where patients need spectacles due to low vision, The Foundation encourages people in developing countries to import new low cost spectacles and train technicians or nurses to test vision and dispense spectacles accurately.

This ensures an on-going supply of good glasses and the establishment of a local business to pay a nurse's salary and subsidise those who can't afford to pay.

If you have second hand glasses you would like to donate, please contact your local Lions club.

Can I donate other things to The Foundation?

The Foundation gratefully accepts donations of relevant ophthalmic equipment that is in good working condition and which can be immediately directed to a country program.

The Foundation believes in access to quality eye care for everyone and as such only uses quality equipment, consumables and facilities.

Please contact Louisa Semmons if you have appropriate equipment that you would like to donate. Email lsemmons@hollows.org.nz  Phone 09-304 0775.
