Fred's Legacy

Fred Hollows is well remembered as a skilled surgeon and a true humanitarian. As well as conducting radio interviews when he was still alive, he has had many books written about him, with his work featured on a number of websites. There has even been a film made about him and several buildings dedicated to his memory.

The Fred Hollows Award: Commissioned by the Eritrean Development Foundation (EDF) and presented at a fundraising dinner in Washington DC, the Award honours the legacy of Fred Hollows and his commitment to eradicating treatable blindness in Eritrea and throughout the world.

Lecture
The Fred Hollows Lecture: The Fred Hollows Lecture was instituted in 1999 to recognise Professor Fred Hollows' work among indigenous people, and his work in raising the profile of ophthalmology. Held as part of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists Annual Scientific Congress, the lecture traditionally covers a topic of applied public health research, with a community focus.

Medical
The Fred Hollows IOL Laboratory: Opened in 1994 at 13 Fred Hollows Street, Asmara, Eritrea, Africa 

The Fred Hollows Operating Theatre: In 2005 the Canberra Eye Hospital, in the ACT of Australia, named an operating theatre after Fred, who performed surgery there soon after he came back from the United Kingdom in the 1960s.
