Insight - The New Zealand Herald

In March 2006 The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ published Insight, a 24 page magazine supplement in The New Zealand Herald, the largest metropolitan daily in New Zealand.

The supplement is a "window into the world of The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ. Through this window we look at great contrasts: between atolls and mountainous remote land locked villages; between palm-fringed tourist resorts and nearby villages with no running water; lands of plenty that surround large pockets of poverty," says The Foundation's Executive Director, Carmel Williams.

"In this setting, one of the greatest contrasts we see in our work is the contrast in a person's life before and after the simple surgery which restores their sight. This miracle is desperately needed for tens of thousands of Pacific people, and our mission is to make sure these people receive that gift."

Insight shares some of the success stories of The Foundation's work in the Pacific and the challenges it faces in eradicating blindness in the region.

Insight was made possible by the support of The New Zeland Herald, whose CEO Ken Steinke is on The Foundation's Board of Directors

Thanks also to Helio Design for designing the supplement and Norske-Skog, who supplied the paper required to print more than 220,000 copies!
