Every five seconds someone in the world goes blind. Four out of five could see again with your help.
Kiwi born Fred Hollows was a world renowned eye doctor and humanitarian who worked tirelessly to restore sight to cataract-blind people in developing countries.
Fred believed strongly in giving a hand up - not a hand out. That's why he set out to provide doctors and nurses in developing countries with the skills and tools they need to restore sight in their own communities.
The Fred Hollows Foundation was established 20 years ago to carry on his life-changing work after he passed away.
Since 1992 we have restored the sight of well over one million people and trained more than 30,000 eye health workers. But with your help we can do so much more.
With your help today we can restore sight to thousands more people in need.
A simple cataract operation costs as little as $25 and takes just 20 minutes. Your donation will not only restore sight - it will also restore dignity and independence.
When Fred met Tran Van Giap (pictured at the top as a child) in Vietnam 20 years ago he was suffering from vision loss in his right eye. Thanks to Fred, Giap had sight-restoring surgery and is now a confident and able school teacher. Giap is the first in his family to attend university and wants to use his skills to help others.
