Our Pacific neighbours have some of the world’s highest rates of avoidable blindness. Through the incredible kindness of people like you, The Future Fund has raised $2.36 million to support transformational eye care projects across the Pacific.
There is still so much more to do. Your compassion and support has a substantial impact towards a world where no one is needlessly blind or vision impaired. You can:
Your kindness can transform lives across the Pacific – powering projects and programmes that restore sight, train the next generation of local eye doctors and nurses, and build sustainable local eye healthcare systems.
This year sees us embrace many bold, ambitious goals. Among our projects, in 2026 you can help to:
One of the biggest challenges in the Pacific is the crippling shortage of trained eye care specialists. Thanks to support from our incredible donors, we are changing this through the training of local eye doctors, nurses, and clinicians – setting the stage for more equitable, locally-led eye care.
In 2026, our training programmes will continue to grow, supporting 41 students – our largest intake to date.
These students will be supported through their training with the launch of two innovative new projects:
With $6,000 you can provide six months’ scholarship to help train an eye nurse.
Outreach services ensure people in remote and isolated communities who are needlessly blind or vision impaired get the help they need. This year, with your wonderful support we are planning an incredible 108 outreaches across six Pacific countries.
With $7,700 you can cover the costs for the Mobile Eye Clinic for one week of local outreach.
The completion and opening of the Papua New Guinea Centre for Eye Health in Port Moresby in 2026 is a significant milestone for people in the country living with avoidable blindness.
The Centre will provide specialist training for eye doctors, nurses and optometrists, substantially increasing the country’s training capacity. This will move PNG ever closer to the goal of one eye doctor and a team of eye nurses for every province in the country.
It will also support the delivery of high-quality, accessible eye care to people across the country, and includes PNG’s first dedicated diabetes eye disease clinic and paediatric eye care services.
Your investment will support areas such as:
With $30,000 you can support patients and students in the first few months of the new PNG Centre for Eye Health.
