Timor Leste | The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ

Tag term summary

  • Training eye health workers

Like Fred, we provide doctors and nurses in developing countries with the skills and tools they need to restore sight in their own communities. The Pacific Islands are spread over thousands of kilometres and there are simply not enough eye health workers to reach everyone in need. The situation is just as critical in Timor-Leste, where there are three eye doctors serving a population of more than one million people.

  • Fred's legacy lives on in Timor-Leste

The Fred Hollows Foundation New Zealand and its partners officially opened a National Eye Centre in Dili on Thursday July 28th 2011. The Centre, which will provide high quality eye care and sight-restoring surgery to thousands of people suffering from avoidable blindness, is the first of its kind in Timor-Leste, a country that is still finding its feet following years of devastating conflict. Thanks to Karen Abplanalp from www.doublescoop.co.nz for the production.

  • The Foundation and our achievements

Like Fred, we have a vision of a world where no one is needlessly blind.
