Mr Morris Dine by Donation dinners a delectable success

What’s better than a night out at one of Auckland’s hottest new restaurants? A night out at one of Auckland’s hottest new restaurants while helping The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ continue our work in the Pacific.

That’s what happened when Michael Meredith opened his award-winning restaurant Mr Morris to raise funds for The Fred Hollows Foundation. Over three nights, Mr Morris hosted sold out dine-by-donation events, raising $22,370.00 for The Foundation’s work in the Pacific. That will help over 890 people receive sight-saving cataract surgery.

Every three months, Mr Morris supports a different charity by holding three charity dinners with all proceeds from food going directly to the charity. Each event featured a mouth-watering set menu with a recommended price point; however, diners were encouraged to donate any extra they could spare, and many generously did.

The work of The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ personally resonates with the award-winning chef.

“I grew up in Samoa with an aunty who had cataracts and witnessed first-hand the negative impact it had on her and how important eyesight is to everyday existence, both for the individual and the wider family structure.

“Back then, Fred Hollows wasn’t around and seeing how a $25 donation can change someone’s life, that’s meaningful to me."

The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ CEO, Dr Audrey Aumua, says the passion of Michael and the Mr Morris team, who sacrificed their night off, shone through at each of the three dinner events.

“The warmth and professionalism of the team and the unbelievably delicious food ensured diners had an incredible experience while helping us support our Pacific neighbours during a particularly challenging year.”

“Thank you to the 244 diners who attended and donated generously, and to Michael and the Mr Morris team whose world-class hospitality showed why Mr Morris continues to win accolades.”

If you missed out on the sold-out dinners, you can still enjoy the Mr Morris experience while supporting the Foundation. Until the end of May, Mr Morris will donate 10% of all proceeds from gift vouchers to The Foundation.
