We are proud to have won the Sustainability Award at this year's New Zealand For Purpose Reporting Awards (formerly the Charity Awards) for our 2022 Performance Report.
The Awards, organised by Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), honour the leading examples of financial reporting in the For-Purpose sector. The Sustainability Award recognises organisations that effectively manage economic, social, and environmental resources, ensuring a resilient future for both the organisation and its key stakeholders.
Last year was the first time we included a section dedicated towards sustainability. This was included as part of our journey to adopt a formal framework for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting so we can ensure sustainability is embedded across our organisation. It is fantastic to have won the Sustainability Award in recognition of this effort, especially as we continue to learn, develop, and adapt our practices.
Our work to end avoidable blindness and vision impairment in the Pacific is closely linked to sustainability as it involves long-term solutions that address the root causes of visual impairment, such as a lack of access to healthcare, and because the Pacific is disproportionately impacted by the effects of climate change. We are committed to working with local governments to help mitigate and adapt to these impacts, and improve the eye health of Pacific communities in an economically, environmentally, and socially viable way.
Congratulations to the team for stellar effort. Producing the annual Performance Report to such a high standard is a significant task for all involved, so it is fantastic to have this recognition.
