History

In 2015 we launched the Mobile Eye Clinic to help address the staggering demand for eye care services in Fiji. The Mobile Eye Clinic provides services right across Fiji’s main island, Viti Levu.

With a full range of medical equipment aboard, the Mobile Eye Clinic is a one-stop shop, offering free eye checks, spectacles, cataract surgery, and treatment for various eye conditions. Its mobility ensures that even those in remote areas have access to quality eye care.

To complement the Mobile Eye Clinic, we established a permanent village screening service. This dedicated team travels to neighbouring villages to provide on-the-spot eye screenings, referring patients to the Mobile Eye Clinic when further treatment is needed. This approach has significantly improved access to eye care for underserved communities.

In November 2017 the FIJI Water Foundation made the incredibly generous donation of a prime mover truck — giving the Clinic its own means of transport. This gift not only gave the Clinic greater reach throughout Fiji but also increased its reliability and cost-effectiveness by removing the need to hire a transporter and eliminating the ongoing cost involved in doing so.
