Thanks for thinking of us, but unfortunately we no longer take donated glasses as it’s too costly.
Donated glasses are often a specific prescription with different strength lenses. This means the chance of finding a perfect (or even close) match for another wearer is slim to none. The cost to arrange custom lenses to then be created for bespoke frames is much higher than the cost of providing ready-made glasses.
If you would like donate single vision glasses, you can send them to The Lions Club. Lions accept prescription and reading glasses, sunglasses and plastic and metal frames. Children’s glasses are especially needed. Unfortunately if they are if they are bifocals or varifocals/multifocals, Lions cannot use them. For details on where to drop off or post your old glasses, visit the Lions Club website.
Alternatively, you can drop any style of glasses into your local Specsavers store who will recycle them in partnership with Opticycle. They separate the many different materials used in the glasses and pass them on to manufacturers as raw materials so they can be made into new products.
