We are proud to present our 2024 Performance Report, a demonstration of the achievements we have made over the last year alongside our Pacific partners.
At the heart of this report is our vision: “A world in which no person is needlessly blind or vision impaired.” Every number, story, and outcome included in this report connects back to that purpose—whether it’s a patient regaining their sight, a student graduating as an eye doctor, or a national health plan being implemented.
As the second year of executing Our 2023 – 2032 Strategy, we remained focused on ending avoidable blindness in the Pacific by supporting our partners to strengthen their eye healthcare systems, build the local eye care workforce and improve accessibility through inclusive care and evidence-based planning.
In 2024, alongside our Pacific partners, we made significant strides, including:
- 68,078 patient consultations
- 5,125 eye surgeries
- 31 eye doctors and nurses graduated
- 129 outreaches held across the Pacific.
Other key highlights from the year include the highly anticipated groundbreaking for the new PNG Centre for Eye Health in Port Moresby; the launch of National Eye Care Plans in Samoa and Papua New Guinea; and the completion of Samoa’s first Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness (RAAB) survey, alongside the release of the Vanuatu RAAB results.
These achievements, together with others that you can read about in the report, set the platform for another positive year of working hand in hand with our Pacific partners to drive the transformation of eye healthcare systems and services for all who are blind of vision impaired.
