Right now, many Pacific eye doctors and nurses have to travel to Fiji to get specialist training — and there aren’t enough places for everyone who needs it.

Fiji National University (through the Pacific Eye Institute in Suva) is the region’s main training hub, but limited space means limited enrolments.

That’s why we are working with our partners to establish satellite training campuses, including one in Solomon Islands — expanding training access, helping clinicians to train closer to home and strengthening local eye care services.

ThreeNews reporter Laura Tupou travelled with us to Honiara to see what this could mean for Solomon Islands eye doctors and nurses, and the patients they care for.
