We offer academic scholarships to help Pacific students gain postgraduate qualifications in specialist eye care.

Professor Fred Hollows believed that real, lasting change happens when three people come together in a room: a teacher, a student, and a patient.
That belief sits at the heart of our scholarship programme. Rather than simply sending clinicians into the Pacific to treat patients, we invest in training Pacific nurses and doctors to become the region’s own eye care specialists – so that the skills, and the impact, stay exactly where they are needed most.
The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ offers scholarships to Pacific students studying towards postgraduate qualifications in specialist eye care at Fiji National University, Fiji, Divine Word University, Papua New Guinea, and the University of Papua New Guinea.
Applications for entry into the programmes and The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ scholarships open mid-year and usually close by the end of August.
*Admission to eye care postgraduate programmes must be made directly to Fiji National University, Divine Word University, or the University of Papua New Guinea.
We are currently accepting Expressions of Interest for scholarships supporting eye care and ophthalmology studies at Fiji National University.
Fiji National University training is delivered through the Pacific Eye Institute in Suva. These programmes combine academic study with supervised clinical and surgical experience to prepare nurses and doctors to diagnose and manage eye conditions and contribute to comprehensive eye care services across the Pacific.

Divine Word University based in Madang, Papua New Guinea, offers specialist eye care training for nurses and Health Extension Officers. This programme strengthens the skills needed to deliver practical eye care, identify and manage common eye conditions, and refer patients who require specialist assessment or treatment:
Postgraduate training of ophthalmologists is also offered by the University of Papua New Guinea. These programmes support the development of specialists who can provide comprehensive clinical and surgical eye care within Papua New Guinea:
